The Takamine DB10 Big Jumbo Bass is no ordinary acoustic bass. It's a true masterpiece of craftsmanship, combining the best qualities of a classic double bass with the playability of an electric bass. This unique hybrid bass was handcrafted in Takamine's Japanese professional series, where instruments have been crafted with the utmost precision for over five decades.
What makes the DB10 so special is its unique design:
Jumbo body with arched top and arched back: The body is made of Sitka spruce (top) and flamed maple (back and sides). These woods provide a full, powerful sound with rich overtones—similar to that of a double bass. The arched construction further contributes to resonance.
Fretless fingerboard with double bass radius: The ebony fingerboard is fretless, allowing for incredible expressive versatility. The radius corresponds to that of a double bass, making the DB10 even playable with a bow—a feature further enhanced by a retractable endpin at the bottom of the body.
Despite its vintage feel, the DB10 is technologically advanced. It features a CT4-DX preamp , one of the best on the market. Combined with the Takamine-developed Palathetic™ pickup, known for its accurate and natural pickup response, the DB10 offers immense tonal variety and excellent feedback control.
In short, the Takamine DB10 is the ideal instrument for bassists seeking the warm, rounded sound of a double bass but preferring the flexibility and portability of an acoustic bass. It's a versatile and powerful instrument, perfect for both stage and studio use.
